Being single has never been harder than during this lingering Covid-19 pandemic that makes us isolate alone. Human touch is an essential fundamental to our emotional and physical health. Covid fatigue is now happening as a survival instinct to ward off depression. If you have been by yourself through most of this shut down you know exactly what I’m talking about. That’s why it’s actually an excellent time to safely meet someone new.

Dating during Covid has made dating apps more effective than ever. If you were previously reluctant to try online now it’s pretty much your only option. I highly recommend it. Video conferencing has become mainstream for communicating. Just try to purchase a webcam, you’ll find it’s like toilet paper, a necessity that’s hard to get. But your phone’s camera is all you need to video chat with a potential date on a dating app. You usually know within the first three minutes of meeting someone if you’d like to continue to get to know them or not.

6 Reasons to use a Dating App Now:

  1. You can date in the safety of your own home which should make you more comfortable.
  2. Catfishing is eliminated, you can see exactly who you’re talking to via video chat.
  3. If you’re not interested it’s much easier to just click “end video chat” than to get up and leave in person.
  4. You can schedule several dates in one night. (Ladies, get hair and makeup ready less often.)
  5. There is no check to pay.
  6. For ladies, you don’t have to wear high heels.

4 Tips for a Good Video Date:

  1. Lighting is everything. Put some effort into making sure you look good on camera.
  2. Don’t complain about Covid (or anything else). The point of a date is to have fun with each other. Be positive, energy is contagious!
  3. Have several video dates before you decide to meet in person. Discover whether you have commonality and if not, don’t waste your time.
  4. Do not allow your first in-person date to be in either of your private homes. Even if you feel like you got to know someone, you don’t yet. Meet in public.

You have no excuse for sitting home alone feeling sorry for yourself. Even if you think you’re not ready try downloading Hinge, Bumble, or Match. It’s fun to “shop” and see who’s out there. In a normal year just after Christmas is when most people get online to find love so now is the perfect time.

There is nothing normal about completely isolating yourself. It’s actually very unhealthy.

When things first shutdown back in March I was lucky enough to get out of the city and go to my brother’s beach house in Rehoboth Beach Delaware. Delaware has been one of the safest places to be. I was able to get out and take walks and get exercise daily, which is a natural anti-depressant. I’m actually pretty good at being alone and sometimes even truly prefer it. But as the weeks passed, and I was unable to touch another human being it really started to wear on me. Normally you hug your friends and family when you see them and you see people fairly regularly. There is nothing normal about completely isolating yourself. It’s actually very unhealthy. My best friend invited me to her house for her birthday in May. When I arrived I asked, “Can I hug you?” She responded, “You better!” It was so comforting to simply have dinner with her and her core family.

You may not even realize how much you really NEED a relationship. Human touch and emotional connection are vital for healthy survival. Wouldn’t it be nice to finish off this pandemic with a new relationship based on commonality, not just chemistry? That’s the advantage of meeting via video first.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
